Diego Arguedas Ortiz

Journalist based in Costa Rica covering climate change and sustainable development. On 2015 I launched Ojo al Clima, the first-ever news outlet devoted to climate change coverage in Central America and part of Semanario Universidad, of which I’m a part-time staff writer. I'm also a stringer for InterPressService and for, with stories on Vice Motherboard, Univision and Le Monde Diplomatique (German version).

At Semanario Universidad I’ve also worked on special environmental projects. On 2015, I was part of the team that delivered a special issue on Earth Day focusing on the ecosystemic impact on the four elements (issues like water quality, forest fires, erosion, droughts, etc). Last August, I lead a special 56-page issue on National Park Day about protected areas, which also featured a special web segment.

On climate change, I covered the 2013, 2014 and 2015 UN Climate Conferences, the latter two as part of a multidisciplinary tracking program called Adopt a Negotiator and the first as part of the Climate News Mosaic, which I cofounded. I have a Bachelor and License Degree in Journalism from University of Costa Rica; 3 courses away from Bachelor in Business by that same university.
